These days, OTT makes it possible to watch anything, anytime, anywhere.

And yet, choosing what to watch is always a struggle. With endless choices, it often feels like there’s nothing to pick.

So I find myself going back to old favorites.

This time, I rewatched the film version of the musical Chicago.

And then, almost comically, I caught myself wondering:

What if Isabella were one of the characters?

She doesn’t fit at all. Not one bit.

And yet, the thought keeps coming back.

요즘 OTT 덕분에 언제 어디서든 원하는 콘텐츠를 볼 수 있다.

하지만 막상 뭘 볼지는 늘 고민이다. 넘치는 콘텐츠 속에서 정작 고를 건 없는 느낌.

그래서인지 예전에 좋았던 작품을 꺼내 다시 보게 된다.

이번엔 오랜만에 뮤지컬 시카고의 영화 버전을 다시 봤다.

그리고 조금 우스꽝스럽지만, 문득 이런 상상을 했다.

그중 한 캐릭터가 이사벨라라면?

정말 안 어울린다. 안 어울려.

그런데 이상하게 자꾸 떠오른다.

처음 영화 시카고를 봤을 때, 인간의 욕망이 이렇게 자극적이고 대담하게 표현될 수 있다는 게 놀라웠다. 재즈와 욕망, 범죄와 화려함이 뒤섞인 장면은 낯설고도 매혹적이었다.

그 후 내한 뮤지컬 무대도 직접 보았다. 영화와는 또 다른 생생한 현장감이 있었다. 배우들의 몸짓 하나, 표정 하나까지 살아 있어 더 깊이 빠져들었다. 그때부터 시카고는 가끔 떠올리면 꺼내 다시 보는 내게 오래 남는 콘텐츠가 되었다.

그리고 이번에는 문득 장난스러운 상상을 했다.

그 안에 이사벨라가 있다면?

ㅋㅋ 정말 안 어울린다. 안 어울려.

바로 그 ‘안 어울림’이 재미가 되어, 숏츠로 만들고 싶었다.

When I first watched the film Chicago, I was amazed by how boldly and provocatively human desire could be portrayed. Jazz, desire, crime, and glamour were all tangled together — unfamiliar, yet fascinating.

Later, I saw the live musical during its Korea tour. It was different from the film, filled with raw energy on stage. Every gesture and every expression of the actors pulled me deeper in. Since then, Chicago has remained a piece I return to whenever it comes to mind.

And this time, a playful thought struck me:

What if Isabella were part of that world?

She doesn’t fit at all. Not one bit.

But that very mismatch became the fun — and I wanted to turn it into a short.
